“Quando m’en vo”

When we think of representation, it manifests its need in many forms. Growing up, television and movies (even live theatre) rarely showed a woman like me, unless portrayed as the nerdy, undesirable sidekick or as a doctor. How does that effect one’s self worth if you are constantly portrayed as two options by an entire society? You either conform or you don’t fit in.

In the spirit of not fitting in, I present an Indian-American lyric soprano, dressed in an Indian outfit, singing the Italian composer, Puccini’s “Quando m’en vo” - all during quarantine in NYC.

Moon River

One of my favorite songs to sing is the classic Henry Mancini piece from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” To me, this pieces speaks of hopefulness, longing for the future and love. Whenever I sing this piece, I am lost in the melody and lyrics that carry me across the river. Please enjoy the short audio clip of “Moon River” (above) from a recent rehearsal.
